I had the opportunity to train with Dan and some of his students. They are excellent martial artists. Dan is a pure bad ass. Hey Dan…this is ANH…I haven’t been by…cause now I’m fat…lol…hope u guys are doing well
Sparring and controlling the fight without hitting anyone goes against what Bruce Lee intended in Tao of Jeet Kune Do. He wanted students to wear as much protective gear as possible (shins, feet, hands, torso, head) so they can go all out in sparring sessions, because you don’t learn how to react in a real battle otherwise. JKD is a true martial art, not a sport.
Obviously you have never been hit full speed by a headbutt, knee, or elbow; otherwise you would know that you can never go full speed in training. You will lose training partners very quickly if you do. So my question to you is: If youre trying to make it realistic, why wear any protective gear?
