Eat right and do some cardio, if you want toning then try 3 sets of 12, be sure to work out your entire body with a day of rest in between. You are not looking to loosing weight so you can eat on the higher calorie side just make sure that you are eating healthy foods and not junk. This should help you maintain and increase your fitness, endurance.
I know it can be expensive, but speaking to a personal trainer and getting them to write you a programme is a good start. Even if you cannot afford a trainer, there should be gym instructors there who are qualified to write a basic programme for you. The reason I suggest this is that it can be easy to start off doing something, believing it is the right way and end up pulling a muscle or similar. Having someone who you how to exercise is a good way to learn.
Whatever you do at the gym, make sure it is something you enjoy, otherwise you won’t stick with it. Perhaps have a goal to work towards, such as a 5km/3 mile run like the Cancer Research Race for Life would be good. Good luck!
Losing weight is 25% Exercise and 75% diet. If you don’t have your diet in check then you’re probably wasting your time at the gym.
It would also help to know what you are doing now.
Edit: Sorry, losing fat is 25% exercise and 75% diet.
Getting “toned” is really reducing fat.
Increase the amount of cardio you are doing. Do compound weight lifts (squats, deadlifts, pull-ups, dips, bench press, etc) since those use multiple muscle groups at once. Those burn fat like crazy.
